BOWEN D. PERRY
D.A.R.E. America Youth Advocacy Board Member from New Mexico
I am proud to represent the beautiful state of New Mexico for the D.A.R.E. America Youth Advocacy Board. I live in the southern part of New Mexico in the beautiful city of Alamogordo. I am currently a senior at Alamogordo High School. I also attend New Mexico State University-Alamogordo and am seeking an Associate degree upon my high school graduation in 2019.
Among all of the academics, I am highly involved in my school, community, and state. I am the proud Corps Commander of Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps NM-20011, President of the Executive Student Councils of Alamogordo High School, President of Alamogordo High School’s College Preparatory Academy, and am the Parliamentarian of the National Honor Society. In my community, I serve as a board member for Alamogordo Mainstreet, and am a Graduate of Junior Leadership Otero. At the state level, I am going to be interning in the New Mexico state legislature under Senator Bill Burt during the 2018-2019 legislative session, as well as a delegate for the 2019 Sen. Pete Dominci Public Policy Conference, and am a recent graduate and electee of New Mexico Boys State, serve on the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge Youth Advisory Council, and most notably represent the youth of New Mexico to the D.A.R.E. America Youth Advocacy Board.
On my weekends, I head out to the local airport (Alamogordo-White Sands Regional Airport), and receive flight lessons from Ed’s Flying Service in the Cessna 152-II. I have been flying as a student pilot now for a little over three years, as I got my start on the other end of the airport flying gliders with White Sands Soaring Association, soloing as a 15-year-old in the glider. Shortly after my glider solo I applied and received a flight training scholarship from the New Mexico Aviation Aerospace Association. Shortly after, transitioning into the cockpit of the single-engine powered aircraft, soloing a few days after my 16 birthday, and am on track to receive a private pilot’s licence in the year of 2019.
I intend on attending a undergraduate program in the state of New Mexico to pursue a Bachelor Degree in Government/Political Science, with a public policy, and pre-law concentration. I hope then to attend a Master of Public Administration/Juris Doctorate program with the end result of being a barred attorney. I hope to put my education to good use as I plan to pursue a career in public service, and eventually running for elected office in the land of enchantment (NM).
In my term, as I represent the state of New Mexico at the national level, I have had the great good fortune of traveling all over the state and meeting, seeing, and being able to be apart of the great things New Mexico’s D.A.R.E. students, graduates, and officers are doing for the end result of building a world where students everywhere are empowered to respect others and choose to lead lives free from violence, substance abuse, and other dangerous behaviors. I am excited, and honored to have this privilege of seeing and representing New Mexico’s youngest, and brightest to the rest of our nation and world.
