Officer Lenehan was a member of the United States Air Force for five years. In 2012, he began his Law Enforcement Career as a Reserve Officer for the Citrus Heights Police Department. Officer Lenehan worked for two years with the Galt Police Department before he joined the Elk Grove Police Department in 2016. Officer Lenehan worked as an Elk Grove Police officer for the last six years, and in 2020 he became a motor officer, which he was extremely excited to begin.
Officer Lenehan is survived by his wife, Jessica, two children Austin and Sydney, his parents and three siblings. Ty was a bright light of personality in his family. His life outside of being a committed officer to the Elk Grove community was dedicated to serving his family and his church community. Ty performed innumerable acts of charity and kindness and blessed many lives with his personality, love and humility.
My fifth grade D.A.R.E. students were upset to learn about the passing of Officer Lenehan. They decided to try and do something to help his family during this difficult and emotional time.
The students and I contacted local sports and collectors for some sports items. We received ten items including an autographed Steph Curry jersey, an autographed regulation helmet from Nick Bosa, an autographed Tim Brown Raider jersey, a framed autographed Rollie Fingers jersey and much more. The students made homemade cards and letters for the friends and family of Officer Lenehan.
This was a joint venture involving the students from the Tracy Unified School District, Jefferson School District and Lammersville School Unified District.
We were able to raise $3,000 for the family. I am very proud of my D.A.R.E. students for their caring and compassion for others.
