In a letter to Illinois D.A.R.E. Training Coordinator Kim Giugler, John Fellows of the Sedalia Police Department provided updates on the D.A.R.E. program in Missouri. He mentioned that D.A.R.E. continues to grow in Missouri, and that Missouri D.A.R.E. offers multiple $500 D.A.R.E. scholarships for students to go to college.

Kim,

I was a student in one the the Illinois D.A.R.E. Association trainings a year and a half ago or so. Since then our D.A.R.E. program here in Missouri continues to blossom due to community support – we offer and will offer for at least the next 27 years multiple $500 D.A.R.E. scholarships for students to go to college. We have a D.A.R.E. car show that brings in $10-$15,000 dollars a year alone from one show – I’ve seen a plate of 12 home baked cookies sell for over $300! All of this in a town of about 22,000 people.

Our success, though growing before me and will continue to grow after me, is partly to do with your very well put on program.

I’m headed in to teach, I believe this will be about 300 student I’ve personally put through the program this year with others putting at least another 400 in our town, and thought I’d just drop a line to say thank you. What a wonderful experience.

Thanks again,
John Fellows
