D.A.R.E. America Youth Advocacy Board Member from Massachusetts
Hi, my name is Erin, I am a sophomore at Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northfield, Massachusetts. I am the youth advocacy board member from Massachusetts.
I am a captain of my swim team. I also play softball and flute. I have participated in 4 Shakespeare plays with my local company. I was a witness and a lawyer in my school’s mock trial team. I have volunteered at my church and with other community events. I teach volunteer swim lessons. During the summer my local Y has a program to give free swim lessons to families who can’t afford lessons. The mission of this program is to help end childhood drowning and promote safety around water. I was elected to student council this year for the second year. Part of my responsibilities are planning community functions and running blood drives for The American Red Cross.
My father is a D.A.R.E. officer and my mother is a lawyer. When I was younger I grew up helping my dad with lessons and safety programs with the police department. I am thankful for this opportunity and would like to thank my dad for introducing me to D.A.R.E. and its lessons at a very young age. I think it is very important to get options from students and youth because they are the people experiencing this in real life.
