GRANT PARISH, LA (GPSO) – On May 9, 2017, Georgetown fifth grade students celebrated their graduation from the D.A.R.E. program.

Georgetown Principal Jennifer Winslett delivered the opening and closing remarks at the ceremony. Emma Winslett said the Pledge of Allegiance and fifth grader Micah Tims said the prayer. G.P.S.O. Corporal Donna Bryant, who was accompanied by her trusty K-9 Zeus, spoke to the attendees about what an honor it was to teach the students in the D.A.R.E. program.

Janie Traylor was the D.A.R.E. essay winner for the fifth grade class and read her essay to the attendees.

Principal Winslett said the ceremony went “very well” and felt it was important to acknowledge the work the students did in soaking up the important life lessons presented them in the D.A.R.E. program.

“If we don’t acknowledge the importance of what they’ve done, then they don’t feel that it is as important, and we need to continue to foster that importance,” said Winslett. “I’d like to see the success of this year’s D.A.R.E. program continue for future D.A.R.E. programs here.”
