The Salem Elks Lodge is proud to announce a donation of $1,500 to the Salem Police Department’s D.A.R.E. Program. This contribution comes through a grant to the Lodge from the Elks National Foundation. This gift will help purchase workbooks and supplies for next school year.  Donations from the Elks, including this new pledge, total over $11,000!

On behalf of the Salem Police Department, the Salem Police Foundation, the Salem Keizer School District, as well as our D.A.R.E. students and families we are thankful for the support of the Elks.

The D.A.R.E. program’s new keepin’ it REAL curriculum is on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence Based Programs for youth substance abuse prevention.  For more information please contact Officer Craig Seibel at 503 588 6257.

The Salem Elks Lodge has been serving the Salem community for over 120 years and has given back more than $12.1 Million to the Salem community to support youth, substance abuse prevention, veterans, and children with disabilities.

Celebrating 25 Years of D.A.R.E. in Salem!

In 1983 a group of educators and police officers in Los Angeles came together and started an innovative prevention program known as D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). Over the next several years the program grew rapidly on the west coast. The Salem Police Department began their D.A.R.E. program in 1992 with one officer teaching full time in six elementary schools.
