PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – Pay It Forward Paragould paired up with the Paragould Police Department and Greene County Sheriff’s Office for a Cops 2 Kids outreach program.

The goal of this program is to connect officers with area youth by giving out snacks to kids while they’re out of school for the summer.

Donations of water, juice, snacks, toys, and bubbles are being accepted and can be dropped off at the police department or sheriff’s office.

“A lot of times when patrol officers are patrolling and kids see the patrol car in their area, they’re there for a reason,” said Corporal Tron Beesley of the Paragould Police Department. “A lot of times they don’t get to interact with police officers that much because they’re there to do a job. They don’t interact with them as they do the D.A.R.E. instructors in school.”

Beesley also serves as a D.A.R.E. officer and said this is one way the kids can see law enforcement in a positive way.

Beesley said the department has received numerous donations as well as calls about how the community can help and officers are busy handing out those treats to the kids in between calls.

“It’s been tremendous,” Beesley said. “A lot of the officers enjoy getting out and seeing the kids and people are truly appreciative of this program. It’s definitely boosting the morale not only in the community but in our department.”

Donations will be accepted until August 15.
