D.A.R.E. America Youth Advocacy Board Alumnus from Minnesota
My name is Will Durie. I live in Hibbing, MN with my parents and my two siblings, an older brother and a younger sister. I am a junior at Hibbing High School this year and maintain a 4.0 GPA while participating in the honors track offered at my school. I am a member of the varsity basketball, baseball, and cross-country sports teams. I have played baseball and basketball my whole life and really enjoy playing the sports with my best friends who have also grown up with the games. I joined cross country in seventh grade and have grown to also love that sport. Along with athletics, I take part in knowledge bowl, student council, TADA (teens against drugs and alcohol), a select choir, the leadership council at my school, and music. In my free time I enjoy playing guitar or piano and singing. I have taken piano lessons since I was five years old and play a mix of classical and pop music. All of these activities have given me the skills to be a strong leader and an active member in my community, which has helped me with my involvement with D.A.R.E.
I became involved with D.A.R.E. in the fifth grade when I first took the “Keepin it Real” course. It provided me with skills that I have used in situations in my life that I felt have been tough. I wanted to become the youth D.A.R.E. advocate because I think that these skills are important and should be shared with more children around the world, starting with my community. Through D.A.R.E. I can continue to be a leader and a positive influence on those around me.
