MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WV News) — Students at Lost Creek Elementary and South Harrison Middle School celebrated their D.A.R.E. graduation on March 21, culminating a 10-week long program that the fifth- and sixth-graders successfully completed in the course of the semester. This is the first year the course has been taught in Harrison County Schools since 2020.

Children in elementary, middle and high school classrooms throughout the country today face a multitude of high-risk circumstances, including the temptation to use drugs and alcohol, violence, bullying, and internet safety, not to mention the fear of school violence, officials said.

The D.A.R.E. program teaches students decision- making skills that equip them to lead safe and healthy lives, officials said.

Lessons include the dangers of drug abuse, how to resist and refuse peer pressure and how to take a stand against bullying, officials said…
