Our Commitment to Privacy

D.A.R.E. America is committed to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality regarding the constituent information that we collect, use, maintain, and disclose. This Privacy Policy explains our constituent, as well as online and offline donor information practices. Constituent, online and offline donor information is used and disclosed only for D.A.R.E.’s mission-related activities and operations, and in other limited circumstances such as when required by legal statute. Use and disclosure of constituent, as well as any and all donor information is limited to a “minimum necessary” standard, except in certain situations specified by law. Other use and disclosure of constituent and any donor information, including disclosure to a third party, shall not generally occur unless authorized by the concerned constituent or donor. Constituents and donors may exercise the rights granted to them under this privacy policy free from any intimidating or retaliatory acts. This Policy may be changed or updated from time to time. By contributing to D.A.R.E., initiating communication with D.A.R.E. or visiting D.A.R.E. at www.dare.org, you accept the practices described in this Policy.

What information does D.A.R.E. collect?

D.A.R.E. may collect personal information whenever you communicate with our offices, when you visit www.dare.org , when you initiate a financial transaction involving D.A.R.E., and when you register for D.A.R.E. events.

Below are general categories of information that may be collected. All information that you provide to D.A.R.E. is voluntary.

Contact information – such as your name, address, telephone number, email address, and contact preferences. We collect this information so that we may: keep you informed about D.A.R.E., invite you to upcoming D.A.R.E. events or inform you of opportunities to support D.A.R.E.’s mission. This information is private, access to the information is restricted to personnel with legitimate need to use or modify the information.

Demographic information – as provided by you, demographic information such as gender, race or ethnicity, marital status, or primary language may be collected. This information is used to help us to better understand the stakeholders we serve or to better communicate with you. This information is private, its use and disclosure limited.

Financial information – If you make a donation to D.A.R.E. or register for a D.A.R.E. event requiring payment, we may ask for financial information such as a credit card number or financial account number(s). This information facilitates the transaction you initiated. Credit card and/or financial account number(s) are used solely for the transaction requested by you and retained only for the period necessary to complete your initiated transaction and not retained by D.A.R.E. beyond that time.

Companies may be engaged by D.A.R.E. to perform a variety of functions, such as assisting with processing of donations and event registrations. Such companies may have access personal information required to perform certain functions. These companies may use such personal information only for the purpose of performing that function and may not use it for any other purpose.

Other information – depending on the reason for your communication with D.A.R.E., we may collect other personal information from you. For example, if you contact D.A.R.E. to donate your automobile we may ask for your vehicle’s identification number. We consider this information private and limit its access, use, and disclosure to those parties who are related to the concerned donation program, service or purpose involved.

Sharing of Constituent Personal Information

Other than described in this policy, D.A.R.E. does not sell, transfer or, disclose constituent or online and offline donor information. D.A.R.E. does not share your information, except as may be required by law or to complete a financial transaction initiated by you.

Access

You are in control of all personal information you provide to us online. If at any time, you would like to correct the personal information we have about you or if you would like to change your preferences for contacts from us, you can let us know by contacting us at the postal address listed below. In order to review any personal information we have about you or to ask us to delete that information or to stop further use of the information, please contact us through the address listed below. If you would like to unsubscribe from our email list, please use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of our newsletter emails or contact us through the postal address listed below. It may take up to ten business days to process your request.

Online Data Collection

We may collect two types of information:

  1. Standard Web server traffic pattern information. General traffic, site usage, browser information and length of stay information is collected and stored in log files. This type of information is shared externally only on an aggregated basis.
  2. Personal information. We do not collect personally identifiable information from you unless you provide it to us voluntarily and knowingly. If you personalize a Web site, volunteer, order a book, request information, or donate, for example, we may collect the following information: first and last name, street address, city, state, zip code, telephone number, email address, and subject of inquiry.

We may offer links to sites that are not operated by D.A.R.E. If you visit one of these linked sites, you should review their privacy and other policies. We are not responsible for the policies and practices of other companies.

What are your rights?

The right to access your information. 

Under our privacy policy, you have the right to (upon request) see your contact and other information that we maintain about you. The description will be sent via postal mail which we believe is the most secure method of communication. Further, we will respond to requests for updates or changes to your personal information. Contact us by email or in writing at the address below.

The right to request restrictions.

We recognize that you may wish to limit the ways in which we contact you, and we offer the following options for restricting internal and external sharing of your contact information:

  1. Do not contact me by telephone.
  2. Do not contact me by postal mail.
  3. Do not contact me by email.
  4. Do not share my contact information with other organizations.
  5. Do not contact me for fundraising purposes.
  6. Do not contact me or share my information with anyone.

Note to Parents on our Privacy Policy

D.A.R.E. welcomes children to learn more about our organization and to further enhance the life skills learned in their classroom. To this end, D.A.R.E. invites students to our website and offers content specifically for them. However, we encourage children to do this only with their parents’ knowledge and supervision. For this reason, the D.A.R.E. follows the guidelines for interactive electronic media published by the Children’s Advertising Review Unit of the Better Business Bureau.
