A 5th grader from Curtis Elementary School out shined 1,600 other students who graduated this year’s D.A.R.E. program here in Bossier Parish. Aysia Williams was chosen as the “D.A.R.E. Essay of the Year” award winner for Bossier Parish and placed 3rd in the Northwest District of Louisiana.

Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington presented young Aysia with a $50 check from the Northwest Louisiana D.A.R.E. Officers Association at the Viking Drive Substation Thursday, July 6, in recognition of her honor. Aysia’s bright and cheerful personality shown through as she visited the Sheriff, along with her mother Sylvia Dudley and her sister Amaya Williams who both won the D.A.R.E. Essay contest years prior. Dep. Cedric Payne, D.A.R.E. supervisor, also presented young Aysia with a Daren the Lion stuffed animal.

Mrs. Dudley said, “we are keeping the tradition alive. I’m so proud of my two daughters as they follow in their mothers’ footsteps.”

“We are proud to have such a young leader in our community,” Sheriff Whittington responded. “You are the future of our parish and our state. And I can tell the future is very bright for you.”

One day, Aysia is planning on attending Law School.

Dep. Revis Gay is the School Resource Officer and D.A.R.E. instructor for Curtis Elementary School. He works closely with Principal Terri Bird and school staff to provide a successful D.A.R.E. Program. Curtis Elementary held their inaugural D.A.R.E. graduation in December of 2022. Dep. Gay and the Curtis Elementary staff couldn’t be prouder and more excited to have one of their students rise to the top of this special honor.

Congratulations, Aysia!
