The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force witnessed 17 of its officers graduate from the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) programme on Friday, October 28th, 2022.

The programme was administered by certified instructors of the D.A.R.E International and was conducted over two weeks. Part of the assessment included the officers having hands on training at the Enid Capron Primary School in Five Cays, Providenciales.

The newly-minted, certified D.A.R.E officers are now tasked with providing guidance to students from Grades Four to Secondary School.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony Deputy Commissioner of Police Rodney Adams said:
“The training over the last two weeks is an indication that we understand the importance of proactive policing versus reactive policing. As a police service, we must demonstrate by way of our policing style -namely the model of “PIER”- that we understand Preventative and Intervention measures which are critical to the business together with Enforcement and Rehabilitation. Our decision not to cancel this training despite the many policing activities currently taking place, clearly illustrates our commitment to becoming a more proactive police service within the TCI.”

He added, “The 17 of you will return to your respective divisions. You now have a responsibility to discharge your duties with trust, commitment and integrity. You will be dealing with young people across the communities and in the schools. Please take your responsibilities seriously and remember to ensure that your actions will first make you proud, the force proud and by extension the Turks and Caicos Islands. You are now entrusted with an awe-inspiring task, and I urge you to continue working hard. All the best and do well.”.

The deputy commissioner thanked the instructors and the training team led by Odessa Forbes, who he described as being committed and willingly stepped up to the plate.
